Our Favorite Fall Views in Southern Utah

If you're spending fall in Southern Utah, you're probably looking for some stunning scenery. After all, our iconic blend of mountain terrain and high desert wilderness makes for some fantastic fall splendor '" intense shades of red, yellow, gold, and purple spill across the ancient pines and craggy desert canyons, rivaling the hues of our famous wild sunsets. If you're looking for color, you've come to the right place.
Fall starts high in the mountains of Southern Utah and makes its way down, touching every leaf and landscape along the way. While there's autumn beauty everywhere you look, you'll need to be strategic if you want to view our best fall scenes before they fade into winter snow. Here are some of our favorite - yet fleeting - fall views in Southern Utah.
Panguitch LakeThis stunning alpine lake may be famous for its fishing (which is particularly good during fall), but trophy-sized trout aren't the only autumn action you'll find along its shores. Thick stands of aspen trees and ponderosa pine stand tall around the lake, their brightly colored leaves mirrored perfectly in the water below. Fall color peaks early at Panguitch Lake, usually hitting its stride around late September.
Book a lakefront cabin to have a front-row view of the autumn show from your spacious outdoor deck. In a rental like The Perch, you can enjoy an aerial view of the fall splendor from a luxurious overlook full of comfort.
Sidney ValleyScenic Byway 143 isn't known as the Fall Color Loop for no reason. The Patchwork Parkway offers miles of fantastic fall leaf peeping, winding through an ancient lava field sprinkled with fiery gold aspens and scarlet maples as it descends into Sidney Valley. Some of the best views lie about 5 miles east of Brian Head Resort, making the drive a perfect autumn day trip from your cozy vacation rental.
Alpine Pond LoopThis easy trail is one of the best fall color hikes in Cedar Breaks National Monument. The trail forms a large figure-8 as it loops through alpine meadows and lush spruce-fir-aspen forest. Follow the lower trail to the spring-fed Alpine Pond before following the 2-mile loop to wind through fall forests and ancient volcanic deposits.
Strawberry Fields CabinThis beautiful mountain cabin in Duck Creek Village offers you a front-row view of fantastic fall scenery without ever leaving your home away from home. Nestled on a private wooded lot, it has a spacious wraparound deck that overlooks acres of fall foliage and stunning mountain views. Jump on an ATV and ride the autumn trails or sip your morning coffee as you drink in the fall splendor '" with five private bedrooms and a host of great amenities, you can even bring the whole family along for the fun.
